Pavenham Women's Institute

Pavenham WI was one of the first to be started in Bedfordshire. It was inaugurated in 1910 and has been a thriving Pavenham society since that time. It provides ladies of our village with an interesting monthly meeting with good speakers and companionship. In fact for newcomers to the village it is a wonderful way to make friends whilst those who are long standing villagers are able to keep in touch on a regular basis.

The old minutes of the WI tell of the work done by the committees throughout the years to entertain the members in many ways by using their skills of baking, acting, sewing, keep fit, craft and knitting as well as a lot of walking. They have always been very active and a driving force in the village.

At present we have 46 members and as well as our monthly meetings have a monthly Luncheon Club at a local pub-very popular. We also run a Book Group. The members meet monthly at each others houses to discuss the book they have read that month. We actively support the annual Flower and Plant Show and we hold an annual Jumble Sale. In October 2017 we held a Lunch to raise funds for the Primrose Car Service Appeal.

All residents in the village are most welcome. Please contact any one of the four members listed below who will be delighted to take you to a meeting..

For more information please contact the secretary Jill Smith

Monthly meetings held on the first Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm in the Village Hall.

Pavenham Christmas Lights

Originally established by longstanding Pavenham resident, John Stamford, the Christmas Lights competition
has, over twenty years, become a village tradition. In 2017, through a simple raffle and award
ceremony held at the local pub on Christmas Eve, it raised over £600 which was split between two
local charitable organisations: the Pavenham Community First Responder Group and Yarl's Wood Befrienders.
The aim of the Pavenham Christmas Lights group is to raise money through the Christmas Lights competition
and other activities for local charitable organisations, that reflect the spirit of neighbourliness that is embodied in the traditions of Christmas.

Friends of St. Peter's Church
This is is a registered charity (number 802696) formed in 1989 to raise funds to help finance the maintenance of the fabric and structure of Pavenham's very old church.
Some members of The Friends are regular church worshippers; many are not. We all share a desire to maintain St. Peter's long tradition and preserve and protect our heritage. We raise funds through
members' subscriptions, donations, legacies and special fund-raising events. We receive wide-ranging support for the various fund-raising social events and activities we organise, often bringing in
people from surrounding villages as well as our core Pavenham supporters.
The Friends is organised by Trustees and an Executive Committee whose members are:

Hugh Josty (Chairman)
Claire Duncan
Amanda Beazley
Debby Horsman
Aisling Boland
Richard Roberts
